For this special event, the craftsmen will demonstrate their skills in the creation of a large lantern (with a diameter of 150 cm!) — using bamboo string, washi paper, paint, and a special glue.

The demonstration will take place at Salm Palace, to be followed by two lectures the following day in the Headquarters of the Czech Academy of Sciences.  The lectures will address the historic significance of lanterns in Japan and the meaning of cultural heritage.

There will also be workshop opportunities to make your own lanterns in the same method and materials under the guidance of the craftsmen.  For more information, click "More Info" and register for the workshop.  We look forward to meeting you in late October!

You are also invited to visit the exhibition, “Japanese Zen paintings from the Kaeru-An collection.”  For more details, see ZENGA – Japanese Zen Paintings from the Kaeru-An Collection | National Gallery Prague (ngprague.cz).
